Failed Back Surgery Lawrenceville, NJ

There are people that have tried everything for their back, including surgery. The problem is, even after back surgery, some unlucky patients still have pain. Many times, the pain is worse! Failed Back Surgery Syndrome is a condition that results after a laminectomy. This is a back surgery where the surgeon removes a bony part of the spine in order to open up the spinal canal. This is usually combined with a discectomy, or removal of a disc. Sometimes metal hardware is used to fuse the bony parts of the spine. Many patients find out, months to years after the surgery, the back pain can return with even new pain complaints!

Office Tour
Spinal Cord Stimulation is an FDA-approved procedure for relieving chronic pain from failed back surgery syndrome. This cutting-edge procedure involves two parts, a trial and a permanent implant. The trial is done right here in our office! It requires the placement of an electrode that delivers pleasurable sensations to the spinal cord. This "blocks" the pain signals going to the brain and replaces them with a pleasurable electric sensation.
The procedure is performed completely under local anesthesia at Performance Spine & Sports medicine. It is a very safe procedure and will likely result in immediate pain relief. The trial lasts about a week and then the temporary leads are removed. If successful, then permanent leads can be implanted by a surgeon. This is a minor surgical procedure.
If you have had low back surgery and still have pain in the back and legs, you may be a candidate for this procedure. Call our office today for a consultation.
